Care First Management Services Ltd wants to provide a range of vocational courses at the former Industrial Roofing And Building Services building in Reeves Street, Bloxwich.

The provider is looking to cater for a total of 30 students who have a range of learning and physical disabilities in the building, which has been closed for some time.

The applicants said they intend to offer a range of courses including woodwork, gardening, bicycle maintenance and craft activities for young and older adults.

Walsall Council planning officers are currently assessing whether or not to give the green light to change the use from industrial use to learning.

In the application, the developer said: “We plan to provided vocational educational opportunities to young and older adults with learning and physical disabilities.

“The education will be delivered through vocational activities such as woodwork, craft, horticulture and cycle maintenance. There will be no machinery installed.

“The students will be referred to us by Walsall education department, Walsall Social Services and Walsall NHS in order to provide continuous education aimed at supporting their independence in the community and moving toward work.

“The will be a maximum of 30 students attending the facilities. The students will either be escorted in or will travel by public transport.

“From our understanding, the site was used as a construction / storage facility, but the premises have been renovated by refurbishing the offices, improving toilet facilities etc over the last few months.”
