Thousands of students are due to find out what grades they have achieved at sixth form and college on Thursday, August 13 – despite exams and assessments being cancelled this year because of coronavirus.

Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre, Wolverhampton Council’s cabinet member for education and skills, said: “This year has been a year like no other, with not only our young people’s education but also their lives in general being temporarily put on hold because of coronavirus.

“I hope they achieve the outcomes they were hoping for and are looking forward to the next stage of their learning journey, whether that is going to university or entering the world of work and training.

“We’ve seen really positive post-16 results in Wolverhampton over the last decade or so, so we’re hoping for another good set of outcomes this year which will reflect the hard work of students and their teachers in the most trying of circumstances.”

Councillor Ruth Buttery, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, added: “Ahead of next week’s results, I want to wish Year 13 students across the borough the very best of luck with their results.

“We know they were disappointed not to complete their final year in further education but I hope their results will reflect their hard work and dedication shown throughout their time at college and sixth form.”

Councillor Chris Towe, Walsall Council’s portfolio holder for education and skills, said: “ I would like to wish the very best of luck to all students getting their A-level results next week.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank teachers and schools for their hard work and support that they have offered to our young people in an environment where we have all had to adapt to a different way of working.”

There will be a number of support services on hand for students who need advice.

Councillor Joyce Underhill, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for best start in life, said: “This has been a very difficult year for all school students.

“Our Connexions team are here to support students and families. Connexions careers advisers provide free, specialised information, advice and guidance to young people and their families.”
