Six secondary schools, all part of the Invictus Education Trust, across the region acted as drop-off points on Monday as staff, students, parents and members of the public dropped off bags and shoeboxes packed with treats.

The bags will be sent out to local NHS heroes and key workers to say thank you for their hard work – and some will also be sent to vulnerable families who need assistance.

Alison Perry, age 32, achievement and inclusion manager at Kinver High, one of the schools involved, said the project was a way to say thanks.

She said: "We launched the campaign last Wednesday, putting posters and banners up around businesses. Parents and teachers got involved. Tesco in Dudley put a trolley out for us too so shoppers could choose to donate something.

"It went really well. We gave out more than 100 bags in the end to key workers, vulnerable families in the community and people who have kept working like local butchers.

"The treat bags contained chocolates, cakes baked by some students, face masks, gin and beer. We wanted to give them luxury items to say thank you.

"There were lots of happy, smiling faces and a lot of gratitude, a lot of people said things like 'I'm just doing my job' but they were all very grateful to us."

The schools which took part in the project were Kinver High, Crestwood School in Kingswinford, Wombourne High, Leasowes in Halesowen, Ellowes Hall in Gornal and Pedmore High.

All six schools are part of Invictus Trust.
