Pupils at Beechwood Church of England Primary School placed medals, a school uniform, photographs of staff and pupils using technology, among the items sealed away.

It was placed in a reflection area at the Beechwood Road site, in Dudley, and is set to be dug up in 2069.

Deputy headteacher Sophie Blick said: “The last item in the time capsule was a letter to the people of the future, which had the details of the delegates who were here today – and what the weather was like.

“The children really enjoyed it. We had 14 children who helped outside and the children inside also celebrated because it was live-streamed into the classrooms.”

Housing developers Jessups, who have been working behind the school, donated the time capsule to the school and dug the hole.

It was sealed away at an event on Friday which coincided with the reflection garden for pupils – allowing them to take time out.

Ian Austin, MP for Dudley North, visited his old school – previously known as St Edmund and St John’s School – to join the ceremony.

Mr Austin said: “It’s always great to go back to my old school. I grew up in Dudley, I had a great start in life here and being the MP for the place you grew up is the greatest privilege anyone could have.

“It was great to see the memories pupils have chosen to preserve for future generations.”
