Moat Hall Primary School in Great Wyrley has created the capsule, which will be opened on the school’s 100th anniversary in 2069, which contains artefacts that will give future pupils a snapshot of school life in 2019.

They include a whole school photograph, a newsletter, a school jumper and tie, awards, a trophy, staff handbook and children’s letters to future pupils.

Councillor Kath Perry officiated the ceremony on Friday which involved the capsule being laid within a new school outdoor mosaic which the children had designed and worked on.

School governors and the school council were in attendance and a video was made to show the whole school in assembly.

Headteacher Jane King said: “We wanted to celebrate the school, with the local community, and at the same time capture the imagination of our pupils.

"It is important that the children understand generations gone by and keep memories alive for future generations.”

Following this ceremony the school hosted a birthday party for the local community with staff and pupils, past and present.

There was costumes, entertainment and food representing the decades from 1969 when the school was opened to the present day. There was also photographs and memorabilia on display for the whole school community to reminisce and enjoy.
