Sacred Heart Primary School, which has been built off Sedgley Road East in Tipton, replaces the existing Grade II listed Carnegie Building in Victoria Road.

The new school, which will be able to offer 420 primary places and 52 nursery places, is expected to be full by 2022.

Pupils have been taught at the school's existing site in Victoria Road whilst work was carried out.

The build came in a bid to meet the growing demand for school places in the borough.

Councillor Ian Jones said: "The opening of the school will be great for the area as there is a shortage of school places in Tipton.

"This will help with the numbers of children getting into schools."
