The prestigious 500-year-old school has lodged plans with Wolverhampton council for the new school on playing fields at its site in Compton Road.

It features additional proposals from the original draft plans, including a new mini grass pitch that will be available for community use.

It will have its own headteacher and will cater for pupils aged from four to seven years old. The school could create around 20 new jobs and will initially take 60 youngsters across three year groups.

The total cost of the project is expected to be between £3-4 million.

Kathy Crewe-Read, head of Wolverhampton Grammar School, said the school would provide 'the best learning environment possible' for youngsters.

Bosses say the new school will also enable them to 'provide business for local suppliers, adding to our local economic impact'.

Wolverhampton council's planning committee is set to vote on the proposals in the coming weeks.
