Warning of jobs cuts at Wolverhampton College
Jobs are to be cut at Wolverhampton College as bosses try to cope with a £3.5million reduction in its budget, it emerged today.
The number of posts under threat are not clear but the college's management structure is being "reviewed" and compulsory redundancies have not been ruled out.
Bosses are also investigating the utilisation of sites owned by the college, which has a presence in Wolverhampton, Bilston, Telford and Worcester.
Interim principal John Hogg said today: "Like other public sector institutions we are currently having to respond to imposed government funding cuts, which will affect the college over the coming years.
"These cuts have come as no surprise and we are looking to mitigate against them by reducing overhead costs, for example by investigating our sites utilisation, targeting procurement efficiencies where possible and introducing carbon management practices.
"As a result of these cuts we are currently reviewing our management structure, which will inevitably lead to a downsizing in staff numbers.
"We are not able at this stage to give an indication of the numbers affected as the re-structure is subject to governors' oversight and approval.
"However, we are confident that we will be able to minimise compulsory redundancies through a voluntary redundancy package."
The Express & Star revealed this week that the college had been told it was making "insufficient progress" in certain areas by education watchdog Ofsted.
