Samuel Job, aged 26, and from Birmingham, has been jailed for two years and three months after pleading guilty at Birmingham Crown Court to stealing £26,000 from a cash delivery company.

In 2024, Job was working for the company as an operations manager and was responsible for overseeing staff and the process of cash being sorted and prepared for delivery in a secure vault.

In August 2024, Job moved a bag containing £25k out of the vault in stages so as not to raise suspicions and eventually into his laptop bag and out of the building.

The cash was immediately flagged as missing, an investigation was launched and Job made sure that he was a part of it.

He would often ask senior managers at the company for updates on the investigation.

At one point, Job attempted to move some of the cash back, returning £1,000 in the original stolen bag.

But the investigation eventually led back to him, and after being confronted, he fled the premises.

However, Job left behind his work mobile phone, which was still logged into his Snapchat account.

Snapchat messages began arriving on his work phone, which was now in the hands of his former manager.

In messages sent to a friend, Job had declared that he wanted to start a new life abroad and needed a fake passport.

He also said he had been searching on news websites but had not seen anything about the crimes he had committed.

In another message, Job asked a friend to book him a hotel in Manchester so he didn't have to check in in person.

The messages were then forwarded to West Midlands Police and Greater Manchester Police, and on September 15, 2024, he was detained on a street in Manchester.

Officers searched his vehicle and found £18,000, along with several company cash bags.

Job initially denied the allegations against him.

He continued to maintain his innocence until the first day of his trial at Birmingham Crown Court when he changed his plea.

On Monday, October 27, Job was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

Detective Constable John Marsh, who led the investigation, said: "Job knew exactly what he was doing. Even when the cash was discovered missing, he still had no intention of returning the full amount.

“He also knew the severity of what he had done, often carrying out internet searches to see if he had appeared in any media as wanted. Instead of taking responsibility, he allowed other staff members to be interviewed about the theft.

"He fled to Manchester and was arrested, having no doubt spent a portion of the money.

“I have no doubt that had we not caught up with him, he would have attempted to flee the country with the money.

“I’m glad we managed to recover some of the money and bring Job to justice for the crime he committed and thought he could get away with."
