Popular Wolverhampton taxi driver killed over £5.80 fare in broad daylight, court told

A hard working Wolverhampton taxi driver was savagely killed by a passenger during an argument over a £5.80 fare, a court has heard.

Father of two Anakh Singh, 59, died after being brutally assaulted next to his taxi on Nine Elms Lane, Park Village Wolverhampton, in broad daylight on Sunday morning, October 30 last year, at Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Tomasz Margol, 36, of Bamford Road, Wolverhampton, is on trial for the murder of the popular taxi driver.

The jury was told several witnesses saw the pair arguing loudly before they began fighting, which resulted with Mr Singh dying from his injuries at the scene.

Local resident Palvinder Kaur, who was pregnant at the time, saw the commotion from her window and went outside.

She said: "I could see a man who looked Romanian arguing with a taxi driver on the pavement. But I could only see from above their shoulders as they were the other side of the taxi.
