West Midlands Police officer charged with historical child sex offence

A serving police officer has been charged with a historical sex offence.

Pc Joseph Powell, of West Midlands Police, is accused of assaulting a child under 13 by touching between 2009 and 2011.

The force said Powell is also charged with unauthorised access to information on a police computer.

The student officer is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates' Court on November 10.

Police said Powell has been suspended since his arrest on August 6 last year while the matter was investigated.
