Proceedings in the case of Bernie Smith, 30, and Kyle Smith, 33, of Cannock, were halted on Monday after a barrister suffered a bereavement.

Judge Kristina Montgomery QC told Stafford Crown Court that Mr Mark Heywood QC, defending Bernie Smith, needed time to attend to "practicalities" and that the case may resume this week.

Craig Robins was 27 when he was attacked in Hednesford on October 30, 2006.

He was left brain damaged and he later died in 2019, aged 40.

The defendants deny manslaughter.
