Roy Garmson had been drinking with his brother Joseph when they started arguing at their mother’s home in Lutley Grove, Bartley Green.

Roy stabbed 31-year-old Joseph with a kitchen knife before fleeing the property at around 8.20pm on September 14 last year.

Joseph, a father of five, was rushed to hospital but died from a stab wound to his leg.

Roy then returned to the Lutley Grove address, where he had been staying at the time, at 11pm the same evening and was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The 34-year-old was found not guilty of murder but was convicted of manslaughter on Friday after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He will be sentenced on June 11.

Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, from the West Midlands Police homicide unit, said: "This is a tragic case which has ripped apart a family.

"Joseph was a father and should have had many more years to look forward to, however these were taken away by his own brother.

"Roy Garmson will not only rightly face a prison sentence, but have to live with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life."
