Nobody has been charged in connection with the deaths of two children more than two years after they were killed in a crash on a busy route.

A loving family – Arathi Nehar and her husband Jaswinder Singh with the two boys they adored, Sanjay Singh, 10, and 23-month-old Pawanveer

Sanjay Singh, aged 10, and his 23-month-old brother Pawanveer died when their mother’s car was struck by a vehicle coming the other way as she turned off the Birmingham New Road in Wolverhampton in March 2019.

Six people were initially arrested, including two on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but all were quickly released under investigation. Nobody has been charged over the boys' deaths and there have been no substantial updates from West Midlands Police regarding the investigation.

The family, from Sedgley, have previously told of their pain at waiting for answers over whether anybody will be prosecuted over their deaths, and it's understood there is frustration over the lack of clarity about what is happening.

Police chiefs say the investigation into the crash is continuing.

Dozens of floral tributes and toys were left in memory of the brothers

But the force has not said whether it expects anyone to be charged or to make any breakthroughs in the case, only saying in a one-line statement provided to the Express & Star: "No updates at the moment and the investigation is continuing."

Arathi Nahar was taking her sons to get fish and chips when her BMW was hit as she went to turn onto Lawnswood Avenue, Parkfields. She was seriously injured and was told her sons had died after waking up in hospital.

The initial investigation focused on two cars – an Audi, which was in collision with the family car, and a Bentley. Detectives were examining whether either were speeding.

Arathi's cousin Rikki Nahar told the Express & Star last year: “There has got to be enough evidence to establish what went on and who was involved. It would be nice to be given information that they have got something solid.”

There was a huge outpouring of grief following the deaths of Cotwall End Primary School pupil Sanjay and little brother Pawanveer, who was just days away from his second birthday.

Balloons, flowers and cuddly toys were among the mountain of tributes that piled up at the crash site.
