Man charged with attempted murder after woman stabbed

A man has been charged with attempted murder over a stabbing which left a woman seriously ill in hospital.

Matthew Elwell is accused of attacking the victim – a 33-year-old woman who is known to him – at an address in Farndon Road, in Birmingham, on Wednesday, April 14.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "She remains in hospital with potentially life-changing injuries having suffered a stab wound to her back.

"We arrested Elwell in Stechford shortly after the 1pm attack and on Thursday night charged him with attempted murder.

"The 24-year-old, from Sharps Close in Birmingham, is due to appear at the city’s magistrates court today [Friday]."
