Central Motorway Police Group said the driver failed to stop and was arrested at Junction 14 of the M6 at Stafford.

A reading of 194 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath was taken, more than five times the limit of 35 microgrammes.

CMPG tweeted saying: "A drink driver who failed to stop for our Doxey crews was arrested at junction 14. He didn't come quietly but luckily no officers hurt, a lower reading of 194 was provided in custody more than five times the legal limit. This is their third drink drive offence.

"That isn’t to speculate on this individual matter though, which will be heard in court in due course. Hopefully, we’ll be able to give you the result when it comes."
