Tony Green, 26, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Shkelzen Taka when he appeared by video-link at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday.

Mr Taka, 28, died shortly after being found with serious head injuries in Coton Lane, Erdington, at about 6am on December 26.

Green, from Suffield Grove, Erdington, was told his trial in the summer is expected to last for around a week.

Adjourning the case, Judge Paul Farrer QC told Green: "I have made a series of directions that you have heard discussed with the lawyers, designed to make sure the case is ready for trial.

"You will next be back before the court on the 17th of June and the trial is fixed for the 5th of July.

"I remand you in custody for the present purposes."
