Officers from Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) said they stopped an Audi and another vehicle at Junction 1, near West Bromwich, after reports of dangerous driving in the early hours of this morning.

A number of people were issued with £200 fines for breaching Covid-19 rules.

Police said one of the motorists was also found to be uninsured and was caught driving the Audi for the owner, who was following behind in the second vehicle

A spokesman for the force said they were all fined for breaching Covid rules after they admitted to travelling home from a party in Stoke-on-Trent.

CMPG tweeted: "Stopped M5 J1 after a report of erratic driving from two cars in convoy. This Audi had no insurance. The owner was in the second car and all had been to a party in Stoke. All reported for COVID-19 breaches. #StayHome."
