Two charged with murder over Tipton park attack

Two Tipton men have been charged with murder following the death of a man assaulted in a park in the town.

Anthony Bird was attacked in Victoria Park at around 11am on Sunday, July 26.

Mr Bird, 50, who was also known locally as 'Goughy' − later showed up at a relative’s address with serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was found to have suffered a fractured eye socket and a broken neck.

His condition deteriorated in hospital and he was pronounced dead on August 12.

Steven Bennett, aged 37, of Bevan Road, Tipton, and Suni Singh Gill, aged 33, of Shore Road, Tipton, were arrested on Thursday and have now been charged with Mr Bird’s murder.

They were appearing before Wolverhampton magistrates today.

A 33-year-old woman also arrested in connection with Mr Bird’s death has been released on police bail.
