Two taken to hospital after machete attack in West Bromwich

Two men were sprayed in the face with an unknown liquid and one was attacked with a machete in West Bromwich.

The pair, aged 28 and 49, were taken to hospital after the attack in Bromford Lane at about 6pm on Friday, July 31.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of both assaults and has since been bailed.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating after two men were assaulted during a fight on Bromford Lane, West Bromwich shortly before 6pm on Friday 31 July.

"It is believed they were sprayed in the face with an unknown substance before one man was attacked with a machete and another was hit on the arm.

"The men aged 28 and 49 were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries and have both since been discharged from hospital.

"A 23-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of both assaults. He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Jordan Eggington, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called by police at 6.08pm on Friday 31st July to an assault in Bromford Lane in West Bromwich.

"We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care car to the scene. We treated two patients, both men, for injuries not believed to be serious and they were taken to hospital for further treatment.”
