Appeal as man suffers fractured jaw after street attack

A man was left with a fractured jaw in an attack minutes after checking on the welfare of a woman in the street.

The 27-year-old man was walking home in the early hours of Sunday when he approached a woman to check on her safety said police.

He then crossed the road when he was assaulted by a man from behind.

Police said the attack happened at around 1.30am near Papa Joe's, close to the junction of Walsall Road and Avon Road/Mill Street, in Cannock.

The victim remained in hospital on Monday after suffering two separate fractures.

Staffordshire Police say they want to speak to a man in a grey hooded top with diagonal stripes who was in the area at the time.

Any witnesses are urged to call police on 101 quoting incident number 529 of July 5.
