The signs are being produced by Penn and Tettenhall Police and follow a recent spates of visits by so-called 'Nottingham Knockers' to homes in Tettenhall.

The name Nottingham Knockers refers to doorstep callers who offer a selection of household products for sale, a scam which is believed to have originated in Nottingham.

The callers are often ex-convicts claiming to be part of a rehabilitation scheme and who try to sell the goods at inflated prices as a ruse to check out a person's home and gullibility.

This can lead to information on the house being sold on to other interested parties, with elderly people in particular being targeted by this scam.

Penn and Tettenhall Police have produced the 'No Cold Callers' sign to help as a deterrent and to protect vulnerable people from being targeted.
