Walsall Council has had to take additional measures in an attempt to stop people using parks and open spaces to use outdoor exercise equipment and tackle groups ignoring the government’s guidance regarding social distancing.

The steps to increase fencing around multi-use games areas and outdoor gym equipment were taken following reports from Walsall Police that they had repeatedly had to move on a number of people using such facilities in the parks.

The move comes ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend amid concerns that more people will be tempted into parks at a crucial time in the country’s battle to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.
