A woman was walking along Angel Passage, which extends from Stafford Street to Upper Lichfield Street, at 10.30am on March 24 when she was asked for the time by a man.

He then blocked her way by standing in front of her and took her bag, say West Midlands Police.

He pushed her to the floor as he got away.

Police suspect the same man, described as white, in his early 20s with a small moustache and around 5ft 5ins struck again five days later at around 12.30pm when a man was threatened with a knife as he walked in the same area.

He was punched in the face and had his phone stolen.

DC Genna Allen from force CID, said: “We are asking for anyone who has any information on either of the two robberies to speak to us.

“Perhaps you noticed suspicious behaviour involving a man of a similar description and wearing a scarf to hide his face, or maybe you have been approached.

“We want to find this offender who has so brazenly committed robberies in broad daylight and clearly isn’t afraid of using force.”

Enquiries continue and anyone with information or with CCTV images that may help is asked to contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, quoting crime reference 20WS/75639Q/20 or 20WS/78949F/20.

Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
