In the video at least three masked youths can be seen lunging towards the 15-year-old boy with knives and a machete.

The incident happened outside the Central Academy school in Newhall Street, Birmingham, at around 3.10pm on Wednesday.

The boy was stabbed several times and taken to hospital where he is recovering from his injuries, West Midlands Police said.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault but officers have released CCTV footage of the attack in a bid to trace other potential suspects.

Sergeant Asaf Khan, from CID, said: “Although the arrest is great progress, I am asking for anyone who recognises the people in this CCTV to speak to us.

"We need to trace the boys who think it’s acceptable to walk around with a knife and attack a schoolboy.

"I am also interested in hearing from witnesses who saw what happened and that have not yet spoken to us, as well as those with mobile phone or dashcam footage."
