Man, 82, arrested over 'murder' of pensioner found dead at house

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a house in Stourbridge.

An 82-year-old woman was discovered at the detached house in Trehernes Drive, Pedmore, on January 23.

An 82-year-old man is being questioned on suspicion of murder, a force spokeswoman confirmed.

Although the death occurred about two weeks ago, police were at the house today.

A police spokeswoman said: "The death is being treated as suspicious and her family are being supported by specialist officers.

"An 82-year-old man is being questioned by police in connection with the death, while the exact circumstances are established.

"Enquiries continue and anyone with information can contact us."

Detectives have been conducting house to house enquiries along the street, which is located in a leafy suburb.

A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I knew that she had died.

"My neighbours said they saw a couple of ambulances and a black van - a body van - going up the road.

"We just thought, there are lots of old people that live here (on the street).

"I thought it was just old age.

"A police officer came round last night and said they had a report of something.

"I was interviewed and they took a statement."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a cardiac arrest at a residential property in Trehernes Drive, Pedmore at 11.13am on the January 23.

"Two ambulances were sent to the scene but sadly nothing could be done to save a woman and she was confirmed deceased on scene."
