Katie Butler, aged 36, lives next to a very narrow alleyway in Watkins Road, Short Heath, Willenhall, which she is now calling to be gated off after a stolen car raced down there and smashed into her property.

West Midlands Police officers are investigating the incident, which took place in the early hours of Sunday – the occupants of the car managed to escape.

Katie, a dental nurse who lives with her husband and two children, said: “We woke up at 3.40am to a massive crash at the side of the house.

“Police had been chasing this car but it must have lost control and smashed into the wall of our kitchen and knocked over a lamppost.

"There’s a huge crack in our wall, all the cupboards had opened so the plates and mugs had come out and smashed.

"And we only had a new kitchen fitted in March.”

Police confirmed that the car was being chased by officers, as it was suspected stolen.

But Katie has said it was the “last straw” for her.

“What if this had happened in the day? What if my children had been playing?

"There would have been fatalities. It needs to be gated off, or bollards need to be put there. It’s getting beyond a joke.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A car being pursued by officers in Walsall collided with a lamppost then a fence and wall at two houses in Watkins Road, Short Heath, Willenhall during the early hours of Sunday morning.

"The occupants managed to escape but the stolen car was recovered."

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting log number 328 of January 5.
