Arson-hit park maintenance building back in use this spring

A park maintenance building hit by an arson attack will be back in use in the spring.

Arsonists caused £500,000 worth of damage after setting fire to the building at Silver Jubilee Park, in Coseley, on April 11 last year.

A large tractor, van and several mowers were left damaged.

Officers said at the time the fire was started when pallets and a wheelie bin were set alight near to the maintenance building, which is used by Dudley Council.

New roofing work has now been completed which includes “anti-vandalism sheeting”.

Council cabinet member, Councillor Karen Shakespeare, said: “The senseless act of vandalism that took place at Silver Jubilee last year caused extensive damage to our green care building but we have remained determined to get the building back up to scratch once again.

“Work as a result of the fire has cost our insurers over £45,000 to date and negotiating this has been time consuming, as has the necessary new roofing work to the building, which includes anti-vandalism sheeting.

“I am however delighted that we expect it to be in full use again this spring and I am sure the local community will join me in welcoming this good news.”
