Robbery victim, 91, knits trauma teddies for youngsters
A 91-year-old robbery victim has knitted trauma teddies to help younger victims cope with their ordeal.
The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, knitted seven trauma teddies after she was attacked and robbed in Stourbridge earlier this year.
She donated the handmade bears to Brierley Hill police station earlier this month for them be given out to young children who have experienced a similar trauma.
Officers will now use the tiny teddies to help comfort children they come across in upsetting circumstances this Christmas.
Dudley police vulnerability officer, Sarah Nixon, said: “When officers are sent to deal with serious and violent incidents, they often come into contact with children and vulnerable adults who’re frightened and distressed by everything that’s going on around them.
"Experiencing something traumatic is worrying for both the children and their parents and so having the teddies available is a great way comfort to the youngsters during these difficult times.
“Here at Brierley Hill police station we’re overwhelmed by the kind and selfless gesture that this lady has made in light of her own experience as a victim of crime.
"She’s spent her own time knitting these bears simply to help others - a truly caring and lovely gesture especially at this time of year."
The woman plans to continue knitting trauma teddies and, to say thank you, Chief Supt Sally Bourner has bought and delivered a bumper pack of wool to her.
