A man in overalls entered an elderly person's home uninvited in an attempted distraction burglary.

The suspect was asking for money to cut trees but no money was handed over and he left the home in Cannock empty handed.

Police are warning residents to watch out after the attempted burglary at about 11am on Wednesday in Brunswick Road.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Please always keep your doors locked and do not allow anyone into your house without checking ID first. If you have any doubts of the authenticity an official or trader deny them entry and call the police on 999 if you feel threatened or 101 in a non-emergency.

"If you have information regarding the incident on Brunswick Road please call Staffordshire Police on 101 and quote Serial 0335 of December 4."
