Teen arrested after police stop suspected drink driver in Wolverhampton

A teenager has been arrested in Wolverhampton on suspicion of drinking and driving during busy morning rush hour.

West Midlands Police officers spotted the 19-year-old man driving on Wednesfield Road at about 8.30am this morning.

They stopped him near the old Canal Club, now Igo Yoga, just off the Stafford Road and noticed the man was clearly under the influence.

A spokesman for the force said the man was sweating, and visibly over the limit.

He was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment before he could be questioned.

West Midlands Police said in a statement: "A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs and taken to hospital for treatment before questioning."

The incident caused some delays during rush hour, as motorists were held up by the police cars in attendance.
