Gurpreet Singh: Retrial of alleged Wolverhampton wife murderer postponed

The retrial of a businessman accused of murdering his wife at their Wolverhampton home has been postponed.

The retrial was of 44-year-old Gurpreet Singh had been due to start on Monday.

He is accused of murdering his 38-year-old wife Sarbjit Kaur at their family home in Rookery Lane, Penn, in February last year.

A jury at Birmingham Crown Court failed to reach a verdict in the original trial.

New evidence in his defence has been served on the court at the eleventh hour and yesterday Judge Melbourne Inman, QC, ruled that the trial, if it takes place, is adjourned until next year.

Singh was acquitted in May of offering to pay a would-be hitman £20,000 to kill his previous wife Amandeep Kaur in 2013 but the jury failed to agree a verdict on the murder charge.
