The 15-year-old was stabbed just yards from his home in Merry Hill, Wolverhampton, after being attacked while he was pushing a broken-down car in Strathfield Walk at around 11pm on May 29, 2018.

Now a specialist prosecutor from the CPS is set to decide how to go forward, with his findings on the case expected on the week commencing October 21, a pre-inquest hearing heard.

A series of arrests were made in connection with the murder, although no one has been charged by police.

But more than 253 documents had been generated since the last inquest hearing on June 24, with 58 witness statements taken and 82 actions made, Detective Sergeant Ashley Hooton from West Midlands Police CID said.

Keelan's mother, Kelly Ellitts, said she was now "banking" on the findings of the review after feeling "more positive" than before.

Coroner Zafar Siddique adjourned the inquest until next year, with a date yet to be set, adding: "Considerable progress is being made and I appreciate it's taken longer than ideal.

"But I understand the reasons behind it because it's a complex investigation."

The hearing took place at Black Country Coroner's Court in Oldbury.
