Man arrested after double stabbing near The Hawthorns

A man has been arrested after a stabbing which left a teenager in a serious condition near The Hawthorns.

Emergency services found the injured boy and a second man, in Dartmouth Road, on the Smethwick and West Bromwich border, at around 6.30am on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old was taken to hospital with stab wounds to his back, with the 24-year-old suffering injuries to his arms and hands.

The two victims were waiting at traffic lights in a black VW Golf when they were attacked, police said.

Three men pulled up in another car and opened the doors of the Golf before attacking the driver and passenger with machetes.

The two victims are now in a stable condition but remain in hospital.

A 22-year-old man was arrested later on suspicion of two counts of wounding and remain in police custody.

Det Sgt Nicholas McCullogh from Force CID said: "Investigations are underway and we currently believe this to be a targeted attack.

"We are appealing for anyone in the area at the time, who saw or heard anything to come forward and also anyone with dash cam footage that may have captured the incident to send it to us."
