Mother admits racially abusing police officer who intervened in recycling bin row
A qualified pharmacist has admitted abusing a police officer during a domestic row outside her home.
Maryam Malik called a male officer a “white stupid Christian b******” in Dunstall Hill, Wolverhampton.
The 40-year-old was seen in the street shouting and screaming at her husband for using the wrong recycling bin, Dudley Magistrates Court heard.
Officers tried to calm her down but she became more angry by their efforts.
She then made racist remarks and was arrested, the court was told.
Prosecuting, Roger Blezzard, told the court: “Officers were directed to a woman who was shouting and screaming. Her husband was putting things in the wrong recycling bin.
“Police heard her and officers tried to calm her down. She was pointing and poking towards the officer and telling him what she thinks.
“They tried again to calm her down.
“She then said ‘you are only doing this because I’m Muslim. You stupid white Christian b******’.”
“It is directed and spoken to the officers.
“She is arrested because they can’t calm her down.”
Malik pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour towards a police officer which was racially aggravated, under Section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
Malik was given an 18-month community order by bench chairman Hilary Parkes, which will see her work with probation on personal issues.
Malik graduated from university as a pharmacist but gave up that profession to care for her children, her defence told the court.
In mitigation, Mr Hussain Hsol said: “She has got frustrated.
“The officers are trying to do their job and listen to both parties.
“Officers have told her to stay quiet and she has got a bit worked up and agitated.”
Malik was also fined £20 and was given a victim surcharge of £90 to pay after the incident on May 20.
