Arrest made after woman hit by car in collision near Jewellery Quarter

A woman was critically injured after being hit by a car near Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter.

Police have arrested a man over the collision which happened at around 9.50am today on Constitution Hill in Hockley.

It is understood the car also hit two lampposts in the crash.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the woman, who was a pedestrian, received advanced treatment at the roadside.

The 28-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the woman was said to be in a critical condition when she arrived at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

He added: "The driver of the car was assessed and discharged at the scene.

“The driver of a second car who had witnessed the incident was also assessed but again, was discharged."

Constitution Hill at the junction with Northwood Street was closed, along with Summer Lane and Great Hampton Row, as enquiries continue.

West Midlands Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
