Woman dies after being found seriously injured near Stafford

A woman found with serious head injuries in a Staffordshire village has died in hospital.

The 44-year-old was taken to hospital after being found in Haughton, near Stafford at around 8pm on Saturday.

However Staffordshire Police has now confirmed that she died on Monday.

A 50-year-old man from Stafford was originally arrested on suspicion of assault GBH with intent and remains in custody.

The woman, who police have not yet named, is believed to have left The Bell Inn pub in the village and was riding an electric bike before she was found injured on the Isabel Trail, off Station Road.

Staffordshire Police confirmed that no-one has been charged in connection with the incident but that detectives are continuing to investigate.

A post mortem is due to take place and police are appealing for members of the public to come forward with any information to assist the investigation.
