In the early hours of Sunday morning the thieves got into the home on Hednesford Road via an unlocked back door.

Car keys from a handbag left downstairs were stolen and so was the vehicle, a black Ford Focus.

The occupant was asleep in the house at the time.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Please secure your property both when you're in it, and when you're not.

"Be aware! Ford Focus' are among the top, if not the most frequently stolen car in the country. If you have a driveway, block the car in with another.

"Use a steering wheel lock as a deterrent as they are difficult for a criminal to remove without bringing attention to themselves."
