Murder investigation as man found injured in West Bromwich dies

A murder investigation has been launched after a man who was found with serious head injuries in West Bromwich has now died.

Police and paramedics were on scene and rushed a 42-year-old man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition when he was found in an alleyway off Heath Lane, Hill Top, at around 5.15am yesterday.

Officers have now confirmed that the victim died yesterday afternoon and a forensic post mortem examination is taking place today.

Detective Inspector Jackie Nicholson, from West Midlands Police, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who sadly died and we will have specialist officers supporting them at this distressing time.

"We continue to investigate what happened before he was found with serious injuries and I would urge anyone who may be able to assist our enquiries, and has not spoken to us already, to get in touch as soon as possible."

Police have been granted extra time to question a 42-year-old man who was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
