Man 'armed with knife' arrested near Dudley Market

A man believed to be armed with a knife was arrested near the entrance of Dudley's Churchill Shopping Centre.

Police officers and dog handlers were seen arriving to help colleagues already trying to detain the man today.

Two armed officers also appeared to help with the arrest close to the entrance of Card Factory near Dudley Market Place.

The arrest came just before 2pm. The arrest caused commotion among shoppers and workers in the town centre.

Crowds were told to move away for their own safety.

A west Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to reports of a man seen with a knife.

"Officers arrived and detained the man."

He remained in custody for questioning.
