Wolverhampton Road crash suspect released under investigation

A man who was arrested after a crash on a major Black Country road left a woman critically injured has been released pending investigation.

The 31-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving after the crash happened on the A4123 Wolverhampton Road on Wednesday but he has now been released.

A toddler had to be rescued from the wreckage of a Kia after the crash happened at Wolverhampton Road's junction with Brandhall Road in Oldbury just after 2pm.

A black Audi overturned and ended up on a grass verge next to the dual carriageway, while the blue Kia was left wrecked in the road.

The seriously-injured women was in the Kia with the toddler when the crash happened and was left trapped, as was a woman in the Audi whose injuries were less serious.

Both were cut free by firefighters.

Bystanders rescued the 18-month-old girl who suffered minor injuries.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said on Friday: "The man arrested for the Wolverhampton Road collision has been released pending further investigation."
