Man remanded in custody over Wolverhampton hammer attack on teenage boy

A man charged with attempted murder following a hammer attack on a teenage boy will appear in court next month.

Daniel Iftikhar, aged 18, from Tipton was charged after violence flared in Wolverhampton city centre last week.

A 16-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries during the attack.

Police were called to Wulfrun Square just after 4.30pm on Monday, with a section outside Wulfrun Shopping Centre cordoned off.

The 18-year-old has also been charged with assault and two counts of possession of offensive weapons.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on May 20, after a hearing was adjourned by Walsall Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

The 37-year-old woman who was arrested after the incident has been released pending further investigation.
