Woman knifed in the face in Brownhills attack

A woman has been stabbed in the face in an attack in Brownhills in the early hours.

Police were called to Watling Street at 3am after a woman suffered serious knife wounds to her head and face.

The 49-year-old was found nearby and taken to hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A 29-year-old man, who was known to the victim, has been arrested.

Police were called to reports of a distressed woman being assaulted.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Caroline Schubert said: "Officers attended and found blood at the scene and a man was detained.

"A 49-year-old woman was later found nearby with serious knife wounds to her head and face, her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"The arrested man, who is 29-years-old and known to the victim, suffered minor injuries and has also been taken to hospital for treatment."

Jamie Arrowsmith, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: "We were called at 3.47am by West Midlands Police to reports of an assault.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene and treated two patients.

"The injuries were not believed to be serious and both were taken to hospital for further assessment."

Watling street, also known as the A5, is a busy route that connects Brownhills to Cannock.
