Police have launched an investigation and say a 4x4 with "inter-turbo special tyres" has been causing havoc at the beauty spot.

They have called for anyone with information about who is causing the damage, off Chase Road, to come forward. Sings and barriers have been destroyed in the area which is a popular spot for walkers and dog owners.

Barriers have been smashed

Police said it has happened overnight on various dates between February 1 and March 9.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "A high-wheel base 4x4 fitted with inter-turbo special tyres has been ripping out road signs and breaking the barriers that prevent vehicle access to the heath land.

"It would appear that the vehicle may be fitted with a winch.
