Pc Kevin McClenaghan was also found not guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice following a direction from the judge.

It had been alleged that he falsely claimed that he had been assaulted by one of the women after their arrest.

The officer denied all the charges.

The officer was cleared following a week-long trial a Birmingham Crown Court.

It follows an investigation by the watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) into an incident Halesowen bus station, near the Cornbow Centre in December 2017 when Pc McClenaghan and another officer were called to an incident.

A woman they arrested for a breach of the peace was handcuffed and put into the back of a police car where another woman joined her and refused to get out, which subsequently led to her arrest.

The IOPC said its report was being finalised prior to being shared with the force.
