Man charged over Great Barr burglary

An 18-year-old man one has been charged in connection with a burglary which left a 62-year-old man in critical condition in hospital.

Jon-Paul Evans, of no fixed address, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court today charged with burglary and causing grievous bodily harm.

The case relates to a burglary at an address on Hillside Road, Great Barr, on February 14, where the victim was found unconscious.

Officers, who were responding four hours after a call was made, had to force entry into the property.

Evans remained in custody today after his appearance at court,and will appear before Birmingham Crown Court on March 25.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police have charged an 18-year-old man in connection with a Sandwell burglary at a house on Hillside Road, Great Barr in the early hours of February 14, that’s left a man in critical condition in hospital.

"Unemployed Jon-Paul Evans, of no fixed address has been charged with burglary and causing grievous bodily harm with intent and has been remanded in custody before his court appearance at Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow."
