The Yorkshire terrier was found in a house in Dilloways Lane in Portobello by officers who were looking for the culprits.

The pup was found with injuries to his paws from broken glass – and nicknamed Don Pablo by the officers from West Midlands' Force Response after drug lord Pablo Escobar.

A tweet from the force said: "Almost was a different story entirely.

"He was lurking in the dark when we were looking for violent thugs and nearly got Tasered – scared us half to death.

"Then when the torch light lit him up we were like 'Awwww'."

The wounded animal is now in the care of vets.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Cannabis plants were found at a property in Dilloways Lane, Wolverhampton just after 10.30pm on February 21.

"Enquiries are on-going."
