Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was knocked down and injured while trying to stop a suspected stolen car.

Coalway Road in Walsall

Officers in Coalway Road, Bloxwich, spotted a green Skoda Octavia suspected of being used in two bilkings earlier this morning.

But when they approached, the car drove off and hit one police officer, injuring his leg.

He suffered minor injuries.

Police flooded the area and, thanks to help from people nearby, two men aged 31 and 20 were detained just minutes later.

They were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The Skoda - believed to have been stolen - has also been recovered.
