Large machete, drugs and cash found in car after Smethwick police chase

A large machete, drugs and cash were found in a suspected stolen car after the driver crashed it during a police chase.

Officers chased an Audi Q5 in Smethwick in the early hours before it crashed in Swan Avenue.

A 22-year-old man was arrested after the incident, which happened at around 1am this morning.

Force Response tweeted saying: "#EUnit #Sandwell has a short pursuit with an Audi Q5 around #Smethwick. The driver crashed the car and we’ve recovered a large machete, cash and more than a few wraps of drugs. And the car was nicked. Cell space for one please #SayNoToDrugs #ClassAWeTakeItAway JB."

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of drugs. He remains in police custody."
