He is accused of killing 38-year-old Sarbjit Kaur who was pronounced dead at the couple’s detached home in Rookery Lane, Penn, on February 16 – which he earlier denied – and also soliciting the murder of Amandeep Kaur, his first wife, between July 11 and December 2, 2013.

An inquest on the second Mrs Kaur, who ran a sewing business from the family home, was told she died from asphyxiation.

Singh, wearing a dark green top, spoke only to enter his plea to the latest charge when he appeared in the dock.

Judge Philip Parker, QC, remanded him in custody until his trial.
